Arsenal expected to sign a top quality striker this summer and the Gunners have been linked with the Serie A stars Alvaro Morata and Gonzalo Higuain.

Morata appears to be a priority target for Arsene Wenger’s side, who are looking to win the Premier League this year. Arsenal have already strengthened their midfield with the signing of Granit Xhaka from Borussia Monchengladbach.

According to reports in Italy, Arsenal have submitted a contract offer to the player which will double his Juventus wages.

Furthermore, reports also add that Real Madrid are likely to exercise their 30 million Euros buyback clause for Morata and are hoping to sell him for a profit later. Therefore, Arsenal are willing to break the bank for the Spaniard and have offered Real Madrid a sum of 60 million Euros.

Although Arsenal’s need for a striker is no secret, paying 60 million Euros for Morata is very unlike the Londoners. Then again, Arsenal have just signed Xhaka for a sum of 45 million Euros. Perhaps Wenger’s perspective towards big money moves are changing or he is desperate to win trophies with a top class squad at his disposal.

If the 60 million Euros deal for Morata comes off, he will be the record signing for Arsenal, ahead of Mesut Ozil.

Either way, it bodes really well for the future of the club. Signing a player like Morata will definitely help Arsenal challenge for the major honours next season. Especially if they can keep their main players fit.

Earlier it was reported that Morata prefers a move to Manchester United because of Mourinho and it will be interesting to see if Arsenal’s big money offer can change the player’s mind now.
