Arsenal fans should remain ever grateful to Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti. The Italian has probably played ‘the major role’ in shaping the Gunners’ future and destiny.
You might be wondering how? The answer is simple – Mesut Ozil.
When Ancelotti joined Real Madrid from Paris Saint-Germain he was left with an option to chose between either of Angel di Maria and Mesut Ozil as the Los Blancos needed to balance the books by selling one of their prized assets having signed Gareth Bale from Tottenham Hotspur for a world record transfer fee.
The Italian chose Di Maria over Ozil and the reason was technical. He said in a recent interview:
“Yes, it was a technical decision. For the balance of the team, I’d rather have Di Maria. He has less talent than Özil but for his character and how he helps the team, we wanted him. With the arrival of Bale, I think it’s more important to have Di Maria than Özil, I’m looking for the team balance.”
While Madrid may achieve league glory and other laurels under Ancelotti but there is no doubt that Ozil is already having a major impact for Arsenal. It is largely for his impact and inspiration that the Gunners are sitting top in the Premier League table and are going from strength to strength with every passing game.
Well, we cannot predict future and we certainly don’t know even whether this is another false dawn for the Gunners for not, but one thing we can say with certainty that with Ozil Arsenal have found a new positive belief that will propel them to reach a new height in this season and years to come.
In retrospection, we can say, what could have been had Ancelotti decided to keep Ozil and sell Di Maria? Would the Argentine have made a similar sort of impact like the German star? Arsenal fans should give a huge thanks to Ancelotti for taking this price-less decision.
