Arsenal can sign €30m Mexican striker for cheap

Arsenal need to buy a striker in the summer. Last summer the Gunners went for Gonzalo Higuain and Luis Suarez, failed to lure both of them and signed Mesut Ozil, an attacking playmaker instead.

Olivier Giroud operated mainly as a lone striker, with young Yaya Sanogo as back-up, and although the duo did their best, still many feel, failing to sign a top striker in January was the major factor why Arsenal lost their way in the title race.

So primary emphasis will be laid on signing a striker and we know they’re not available on cheap. However, the Gunners could resign their former striker Carlos Vela for only €4m, should they want to resign the Mexican.

The Mexican joined the Gunners in 2005, but due to work permit restrictions, he could not start playing for the Gunners before 2008-09. He failed to match the high standards required at the club and was sent on loan on two occasions.

During his time at Real Sociedad on loan he made a bright impression, where he scored 12 goals in the league. He was sold permanently and since then the Mexican has enjoyed a good career in Spain, with this season he has bagged 19 goals and 12 assists in all competition.

As a result of his impressive performances, the market price of the 25-year-old has increased a lot, though to be around €30m.

Vela insists that he is happy at Sociedad but doesn’t rule out the possibility of joining Arsenal, who could sign him for only €4m. He said to Marca:

“One possibility is that of the €30 million transfer, but there are more options for me to see what to do. Arsenal can buy me back for €4m. Now I see things differently and will not close the door to Arsenal, or any England team. I think I’m ready to go to another country.”

He has matured as a striker and could be a goos squad player for the Gunner in the coming season. Should Arsenal go for him in the summer?
