Chelsea defender, Andreas Christensen, has impressed at Borussia Monchengladbach, and his father, who is also his agent, says the Denmark international will be brought back to Stamford Bridge at the end of the season.
The 20-year-old joined Chelsea in 2014, and has made three appearances for the London club. In 2015, he joined Gladbach, on a two-year loan deal from Chelsea. After an impressive debut season, the Danish youngster was voted Monchegladbach Player of the Season.
The Bundesliga club have made several attempts to convert his loan move into a permanent one, but it seems that Chelsea want him back at the club.
Sten Christensen (father and agent) said, as quoted by BT:
Chelsea want Andreas back, and they have wanted that for a long time. But it was an interminable two-year loan, so there was nothing to do. They have worked to get him back before the time, but Gladbach would not let him. Instead, they would like to buy Andreas. They still really want to, but Chelsea [won’t] get rid of him, and the price [would be] too high
As it is right now, he’ll be at Chelsea again this summer. It is important for Andreas that he plays. He will not return to Chelsea and sit on the bench. It is this transfer window that determines how Andreas’ situation will be in the summer. If Chelsea buy ten central defenders, it may well be that we need to do something else. But let’s see because Chelsea don’t want to lose Andreas.
Chelsea manager, Antonio Conte, is keen to bolster his defence, and the best thing that can happen is to build the side with the existing players around. The Blues should look to replace the club-skipper, John Terry, who is approaching the fag end of his career, next summer and it will be interesting to see if Christensen is given more first team responsibilities.
He is regarded as one of the best young central defenders in the world at the moment, and it is highly unlikely that Chelsea will let him go without giving him a proper chance.
